I like all the different perspectives shared in this review of the bizarre, icky and strangely irresistible pre-code The Story of Temple Drake (1933)

I've been intrigued by the Gildersleeves movies ever since I saw them pop up on Warner Archive Instant. The b-comedy series is an offshoot of a radio show. This review of Gildersleeves Bad Day(1943) gives some good background on the movies, in addition to a great review of the flick--Forgotten Films

Spike Lee talks briefly about meeting Billy Wilder and his love for the director's bleak drama Ace in the Hole (1951). I love it when current directors geek out about classic movies--The Criterion Collection

Matthew Kennedy's upcoming book Roadshow! The Fall of Film Musicals in the 1960′s sounds like a good read. This post makes an interesting case for the idea that film musicals never actually died out though, and even flourished in the seventies--TCM/Movie Morlocks
