KC: Late comment. I ike much of Kazan’s work and have finally started on his book: “Elia Kazan: A Life.” It is full of interesting insight into theatre and films -- but what a weight he carried, and tells us about in stark detail. (Jacob Marley never carried anything this heavy.) I am not sure I would have liked Kazan personally, nor am I sure he did so himself. Yet, there is much within the book from which to learn. I think I will make it through, but it will be an arduous journey. No frivolous Broadway / Hollywood biography this. Best. Gerald
Gerald--Thank you for letting me know about Kazan's autobiography. I've owned it for over ten years and I haven't been ever able to do more than browse through it. I've always admired his work, but I haven't found much to like about him personally. I wonder if I'd be able to handle a long book in his voice. You've got me curious enough to try. I'd love to know what you think about it once you reach the end.
